Adelaide is known for its many churches as well as for being the serial killer capital of Australia. It’s also the place where local deviates The Meatbeaters have been preaching their gospel of filth and sonic destruction for about two decades. Theirs is a loud, dirty, ugly din that has no time for subtlety. If you need proof, slap on this disc’s “C.O.A.B.” or “Lunch” and watch those easily offended run for their nearest safe space.

Fans of Australian scuzz rock will find much to love here. The Meatbeaters’ heavy, relentless assault recalls their Melbourne mates the Powder Monkeys or the Cosmic Psychos/Onyas laced with Motorhead. Unlike those bands, however, they’re barely known outside of their home country, even though they’ve been killin’ it for two decades with a hearty stack of stellar releases. This comp aims to right that wrong and score the Meatbeaters some international acclaim with a selection of 11 band originals, some of which are making their first appearance on vinyl here.
