The Thanes have been playing their 60s style garage beat folk punk pop and odd little forays into the realms of the psychedelic for 35 + years now!
Based in Edinburgh, Scotland, among the more iconic groups The Thanes have appeared on live bills alongside are: ? & the Mysterians, The Remains, The Crawdaddys, The Beatstalkers, The Sonics, Lyres and The Pretty Things! In 2011-12 the group joined forces with the late, truly great George Gallacher, and Fraser Watson of THE POETS, to resurrect the music and feel of the highly acclaimed Glasgow 60s beat legends. With the death of lead singer George Gallacher in August 2012, The Poets are no more!
2014-15 saw The Thanes unleash a couple of well-received 7″ singles in the UK , “Dishin’ The Dirt’ on Dirty Water, and “She’s Coming Back To Me” on State; backed with The Poets “Love Is Fading Away’.
Labels who have supported The Thanes over the years include: DDT, Screaming Apple, Misty Lane, Distortions, Larsen, Corduroy, State and Dirty Water … At time of writing, 15/03/23 The Thanes are: Angus McPake, organ, guitar, Gordon Brady, drums, backing vocals, Colin Morris, bass, backing vocals and Lenny Helsing, guitar, lead vocals. The “live” LP “Roh Und Liebendig Nicht In Köln” was released on Germany’s SoundFlat label in October 2022, while a 4-song 7” EP was issued on the Disques Rogue label in France, issued in May 2023!

Formed in order to play the kind of wild teenage Rock’n’Roll, 60s garage punk, Rhythm & Blues and raw blues that all five members grew up on, The Beatpack have been around in various shapes and forms for thirty years now, albeit with a two-decade break in the middle! First time around, they recorded a 45, an EP and LP for German label Screaming Apple, and then vanished in a puff of smoke, only resurfacing in 2012. Since then, two more 45s and two EPs have followed, along with tours of Spain and Germany and their second LP, All Good Things (Turn to Dust) came out on Spinout Nuggets in December 2022 and is available here: https://spinoutnuggets.bandcamp.com/album/all-good-things-turn-to-dust
